Lube oil contamination can come in many forms. Coolant leaks, various wear particles, and carbonization are all found in lube oil systems. Coolant contamination is one of the most over looked problems at a compressor station. Engine and compressor coolant play a vital role in the efficient operation of both pieces of equipment. Oil leaks and wear particles in coolant can lead to poor heat exchange capability, greater use of make-up coolant and increased pump seal wear. The other component for the engine fuel is air. Ambient air is mixed with the natural gas to fuel the engine. This air must be filtered to remove dust, dirt, and other contaminants found in air. Gas leaving the compressor station is typically bound for re-entry in to the pipeline or into gas storage formations.
